Knowledge from 2nd Semester

The things that I've learned in both EN001 and RD095 are plentiful, whether its the skills from both classes or just the cool stuff we did. In EN001, my essay writing has dramatically improved from revising essays as much as 10 times to prepare for the portfolio. RD095 was a much tougher class for me because my reading comprehension was awful and that my note taking wasn't the best (it's good but could be alot better). It still is tough for me because finding the main idea in long readings took forever. A good example of this was when we got the Omnivore's Dillemma reading. It took me a whole day of my weekend to read 5 pages just cause I couldn't find the main idea for those few paragraphs. Annotating is still a struggle because when I read a reading, I'm not sure what to take note of and find the main idea given in the reading. However, I'm able to imply the main idea of a reading. Odd isn't it. In EN001, the toughest essay that I did was the Minister of Culture. I had to come up with ideas at first, but when I chose the essay to revise it a few times, it became more difficult coming up with extra details. Eventually I succeeded in giving enough detail for it. I'm actually nervous about the reading final because I have no idea how I'm going to do on it since I still struggle with annotating and finding the main idea to answer questions. The videos were cool to watch, especially the Spenser for Hire clips regarding to Double Deuce. It showed alot of action and I felt like I was a part of the clips. Overall, the classes were cool and I learned alot from them.

My Environment

A toxic environment can be guaranteed to get one sick by having constant access to fast food. It is a reliance on machines, especially cars, instead of exercising. I would describe my transportation environment as not toxic because I use public transportation 90% of the time. When it comes to what I eat, my environment isn't the best. I usually eat out for breakfast at such places as McDonald's and Burger King. That's not everyday though. I usually eat a bowl of cereal (Frosted Flakes to be exact) at home for breakfast. Getting fast food, I ususally pay $5 to get what I want for breakfast. Whether I'm eating at the school cafe or at a fast food restaurant, eating lunch is more expensive. Most of the time, I eat dinner at home. My environment isn't toxic because I walk to and from college from the Takoma station on the red line. Its a good 10 to 15 minute walk. I believe doing that has made all my jeans too big to wear, which shows that I do exercise on a daily basis.

my experience with the food i ate today

This morning, I drank a big bottle of water before I left out the house. I then went to 7 Eleven and got a sausage, egg, and cheese croissant sandwich with tropicana orange juice. During break, I ate a honeybun and drank a Coke. After lunch, I ate a slice of pepperoni pizza along with the Coke i had earlier. For dinner, I ate a small piece of steak with A1 sauce and a little bit of Coke.

Which Characters are Better: TV or Book? In-class writing

I like the characters on the TV show better than the characters in the book. There are several reasons that I can support this. One is that the characters on the TV show were more intense. At first Hawk and Spenser were very competitive towards each other on the TV show but were more chill and got along better in the book. Hawk on the TV show was more up-front and more of a no non-sense character. He was that way in the book too but on the TV show I felt like I was there. Spenser on the TV show was more tougher than in the book. He was in the gym boxing to get prepared for what would happen next. Spenser was more laid back in the book. They got into more action and more high-speed chases on the TV show where they're running after people and shooting them. Hawk would bail Spenser out in a few different occasions where Spenser could've gotten killed. Its the other way around in the book. Spenser does shoot more people on the TV show but not as much in the book. The way Hawk spoke on the TV show seemed like I was talking to him in person from how he shared his experiences and telling Spenser that he won't know what it's like to be black. Hawk was more of the main character on the TV show than he was in the book. Spenser was more of a supporting main character or not as much of a main character on the TV show as he is in he book.

Pop Culture: Double Deuce

I chose to do chapter 32 in Double Deuce where Spenser and Erin Macklin are lookin for Tallboy so they can ask him questions about the murder of young girl and her baby daughter. Spenser and Erin are looking for answers to solve the case. I imagine myself as an extra character in the book who lives in the neighborhood and listening to the conversation that Tallboy, Erin Macklin, and Spenser were having about the murder.

As I'm walking in the gas station to get me something to drink, I see a car pull up and in the car it looked like it was Spenser and Erin Macklin in the car. They Get out the car to talk to a guy named Tallboy. It seemed that he knew Erin. There asking him questions about a murder of a girl who's name was Devona Jefferson. They also asked him about a baby. Spenser gave him what looked like scotch. After he drank the scotch, they asked Tallboy who killed the baby and her mother. I'm getting a coke at the gas station and I look over, he looked at Erin and took another sip of the scotch. Then, Tallboy starts to cry and I heard him say "Nine my (explitive) baby, (explitive)" I didn't want to say what he really said but I understood why Tallboy was upset. I knew he was talking about the Hobarts. I know he wants the Hobarts dead and/or not get away with it. If that were my gf and baby (I dont have kids and my gf doesn't either), than I'd be sad and mad too.

16 and Pregnant Episode Review

The episode about Chelsea on 16 and Pregnant shows the reality of parenthood as very difficult task, especially for teenagers. She had to deal with friends and family sharing their opinion on what she should do. The episode show's that pregnancy effects the whole family. Her boyfriend, who is the father of her baby, wasn't treating her right by calling her names and not being there for the baby. The father wasn't responsible in helping take care of the baby, causing their relationship to end. Chelsea had her parents help her take care of her baby after she gave birth. This episode shows that being a teen mother is not easy at all, especially if the father is not around.

Open Mic!!!!

The microphone was invented in 1964 by the famous inventor James Edward West. The invention of the microphone has effected popular culture because lots of people use microphones. Microphones are used in such aspects as sports, music, and entertainment. West started the creation of microphones when he was in charge of the development of foil electret transducers for sound recording and voice communication. That is used in 90% of all microphones built today. Another effect the invention of microphones in popular culture is that they are used by people everyday.

Real World D.C. - Episode 2 Review

From what I saw on episode 2 of The Real World D.C., the show is very entertaining and I like to watch it. There were several ways that the episode and the show stood out. The high flirtation levels between the roommates was interesting. Ty and Emily have alot in common and were sharing a bed off and on throughout the episode. Andrew tried to express his feelings for Callie but she only see's him as a friend, which led to him bringing another girl in the house. Ashley and Mike were also sharing a bed in the episode until Mike brought a guy home, which grossed Ashley out.

I believe The Real World is valuable to viewers because it brings different personalities in one setting and demonstrates how they'll get along with each other. Another reason the show is valuable is because the viewers can see what it's like to have roommates that they never knew existed. The tag line of the show, (What happens when people stop being polite and start getting real), brings more entertainment value to the show because its very catchy.

Pop Culture: What's really real on TV?

I don't watch TV as much as I used to, but when I do, I usually watch The Real World and Family Guy. Both shows have realistic traits. For instance, The Real World is a show where strangers are picked to live in a house together and have their lives taped. The most current season took place in Washington D.C.. The show is realistic for a number of reasons. The strangers on the show become roommates and have to adjust to each other. The disagreements and arguements are real. Some of the arguements and disagreements can be about one roommate disagreeing with another roommate about their personal choices to one roommate sayin something to another roommate that they didn't like. Some people say that The Real World isn't realistic because they may think the show is scripted because of the disagreements.

Family Guy is an animated family sitcom about Peter Griffin and his family. The show can be realistic for a couple reasons. One reason is that the Griffins are a dysfunctional family. They go through real-life issues like everybody else in reality, but do so in a hilarious, comical way. The reasons that Family Guy can be unrealistic is because the youngest child, Stewie, is a talking baby that thinks like and sometimes acts like an adult. Brian, the family dog, can also talk and does the same things an adult would do.

Lil' Wayne "Rebirth" article response

I agree with the reviewer's opinion of Lil' Wayne's Rebirth album because the sound is out of what he usually does with his music. The majority of the songs he sings seem like he's forcing himself to sing. On the album, he also seems like he's not sure if he wants to do rock music or rap music. Although he aimed to show that he likes rock music as much as hip-hop, he's not the best singer but attempts to in songs such as "Prom Queen", "Knockout" featuring Nicki Minaj, and "Drop The World" featuring Eminem. "Drop The World" featuring Eminem sounds more like the works he has done in the past. The sound of that song has a hip-hop-rock type of feel to it. The other songs have a rock-n-roll feel to it. I like how Lil' Wayne showed that he can do other genres of music other than hip-hop, but it seems odd at the same time. The "Rebirth" album, Lil' Wayne's seventh album will not hurt his rap career bacause Lil' Wayne will have more albums in the future and as people like and will always listen to his music whether it's rock album or a hip-hop album.

I'm Mr. Solo Dolo (Nightmare) By Kid Cudi

Listen good, I don't have nobody. But what I might feel are the sounds of sanity. Hoping what I hear loops itself continuously. Then I won't be afraid. No no.
Oh woah woah woah. Why must it feel so wrong when I try to do right? Do right. Oh woah woah woah. Soaring through paradise when I'm closing my eyes. I'm Mr. Solo Dolo. Oh oh oh. Oh oh.
Look at me. You tell me just what u see. Am I speaking whom you may love or enemy? Am I speaking for you and yours or someone else? I need some answers. Yeah yeah.
Oh woah woah woah. Why must it feel so wrong when I try to do right? Do right. Oh woah woah woah. Soaring through paradise when I'm closing my eyes. I'm Mr. Solo Dolo. Oh oh oh. Oh oh.
My world turns. Flippin' the bird to the ones who figure me. Outkast no not the duo. Back to Shaker Heights when they knew little brother was a strange one boo hoo. Cry me a river. Hey look who. Try without an igloo. Cold cold world wasn't fit for me at all. Look at where I stand at, tall. Cut you my kid cudi bishos. Mute motha' fucka' back home click pause. Gargle on my mayo. Look at me. I bet I'm the one you think the feo. Floatin in my mind no sail. Ahoy! Ahoy!
Listen good, I don't have nobody. But what I might feel are the sounds of sanity. Hoping what I heat loops itself continuously. No I won't be afraid. Hey hey.
Oh woah woah woah. Why must I feel so wrong when I try to do right? Do right. Oh woah woah woah. Soaring through paradise when I'm closing my eyes. I'm Mr. Solo Dolo.
Why must I feel so right when I know it's wrong? It's wrong. When will I ever learn from the words of my songs? I'm Mr. Solo Dolo.

How I Became a Football Fan

How did I become a football fan? Well, I started liking football when I was 10 years old. I would hear my uncles yell and scream at the television. I remember the first team I liked which was the Jacksonville Jaguars. I had the coat with the team logo on it when I was little. I would ask lots of questions about why they did that. One christmas, a family friend gave me a football game for my playstation system. I think it was Madden NFL 2000. I would literally lie about getting my homework done just so I can play it when I got home from school. After that I became attached to pro football. Then, I started to watch the games with my uncles and grandparents and I started to get a better understanding of the game itself. I would even check out books from the school library. As I got older, I became able to explain to people what american football is. I don't talk about it as much but when I do people start to like it.

Lots of people have different choices of teams that they like. Alot of my friends like such teams as the Ravens, Eagles, Giants, Cowboys, and the Patriots. I personally like the Redskins. I get alot of grief of why I like that team but that's my opinion. Alot of my friends like the Cowboys. Even my mom likes the Cowboys, which kind of hurt cause both teams are rivals. I'm still trying to get over that though. My reason for liking the Redskins because they're the home team and that I like their will to win, even though lately they haven't had that result. I believe they will win more games next season and be in the playoffs.

How I Got Introduced to Blogspot.com

In class, I found out that I have to blog for some class assignments. Once I created my page, I thought, "Why not blog for fun instead for homework". So I will have something up soon.
